PAINTS & DISTEMPER
Calcium Carbonate has a refractory index close to that of many oleo resinous paint media, resulting in low light scattering when Calcites are dispersed in typical binders. Hence is largely consumed for the manufacture of Paints and Distempers
OPTICAL INDUSTRIES
The transparent and clear crystals are used in the optical industry, for the manufacture of nicol prism. Principal characteristics which make iceland-spar of special value for use in optical instruments are its very high birefringence, high degree of purity, perfect crystalline structure and transparency. The mineral must be in pieces at least 25mm. long, 12mm. thick, colorless, transparent and free from cloudy inclusions, cavities, and foreign substances
ANTACIDS
A commercial use of calcium carbonate is its use in antacids. This is also due to its ability to dissolve in acid and to produce carbon dioxide and water. The calcium carbonate in the antacid dissolves in the stomach acid, HCl and produces water, carbon dioxide and calcium chloride.

PAPER INDUSTRIES
Calcium carbonate in the form of chalk is used as filler in the paper industry. It is used as a cheap way to make bright opaque paper. Filler is used at the wet-end of paper making machines, the calcium carbonate filler allows for the paper to be bright and smooth.
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES
The main use is being its contribution to the making of mortar which is used in bonding bricks, concrete blocks, stones, and tiles in construction.
GLASS & STEEL INDUSTRIES
Limestone is added to glass because it has low water solubility, Calcite is used to collect any impurities that might be in the steel materials.
LIME:
Lime is CaO and is useful in many industrial areas such as the steel industry, the refining of gases, the paper industry, the glass industry, and refining sugar. Calcium carbonate decomposes to
form lime and carbon dioxide.
OTHERS
Calcite in pulverized form finds use mostly as filler in rubber and textile goods. A considerable quantity is also used in the ceramics industry for the preparation of glazes.
Calcite is now insecticides.
It is also used in the manufacture of cement, calcium carbide, metal polish and sometimes also as a fluxing agent.
Many important chemicals are created from Calcite, as well as useful drugs
Calcite is also the main component of Chalk, which is processed as drawing chalk
